The original creators of the well-known ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has announced that corporate owner the multinational conglomerate prevented the introduction of a new pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, who established the business alongside his partner, revealed that he plans to personally create the controversial flavor within an individual series highlighting causes the company has been barred from speaking out about.

Ongoing Conflict Between Founders versus Corporate Owner

The recent announcement escalates the continuing conflict between the world-famous dessert company and Unilever, the UK-based packaged goods corporation which acquired Ben & Jerry's since 2000.

The co-founders have claimed that Unilever and their ice cream division Magnum unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's against "maintaining its activist principles".

Watermelon Sorbet becoming an Emblem of Solidarity

Mr. Cohen announced through an Instagram video how he's developing a new watermelon-based sorbet, asking for consumer ideas for the product's name plus additional components.

“I'm doing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder declared in his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-based frozen dessert that advocates for permanent peace for Palestinians while demanding repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has become a symbol for support for Palestinians due to its coloration, that mirror those of the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Social Engagement and Recent Changes

In 2021, the ice cream company ceased sales of their merchandise in territories under Israeli control, resulting in Unilever selling their Israel business to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing ongoing distribution within disputed territories.

This upcoming product line is being created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist ice cream brand that originally established several years back to support ex- political contender Bernie Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Management Shifts plus Upcoming Plans

The founder stated how he plans to create other ice cream flavors focusing on concerns that the company was silenced from speaking about openly due to Unilever.

This development follows partner Mr. Greenfield stepped down his position at the company recently, following many years with the organization, mentioning concerns regarding how its independence had been undermined following Unilever's decision to restrict its social activism.

At that time, Ben Cohen commented that "Jerry has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was breaking it."

"My heart leads me to continue to work within the organization to advocate for corporate autonomy so that the company can actualise its ethical purpose, the principles that it was founded on while upholding for decades," he explained to journalists.
