Adam Wharton His first start for his country. Slightly loose in possession but his dangerous deliveries caused problems. A handy pace-controller for the coach to call upon versus defensive opponents. Shown a yellow for a rash tackle. 6/10

The midfielder Crosses from corners and free kicks created chances. Had freedom to drift on the left yet found himself in an offside position as the pass came in front of goal. Granted a merited substitution on the hour mark. 6

The star midfielder Functioned in a forward spot on the right and did plenty of the hard yards. Displayed moments of class and dragged an attempt over. Substituted in the closing stages for Rogers, a fellow player, following a yellow card. Seven

The winger Had England’s clearest opportunity of the first half, his effort excellently kept out from Thomas Strakosha. With a teammate hanging back, he was forced to stretch the play out wide but his crosses into the box were inconsistent. Taken off with 15 to go. 6/10

The captain The match-winner scoring seventy-seventh and seventy-eighth goals for his country. His first a trademark opportunist's goal while the second a superb headed goal following a clever run from his marker. Aged 32, he’s only getting better with the national team have every chance next summer with him up top. Eight
