The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's sincerity found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about observing this endearing family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to evolve comedy past its current layer of irony. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially help usher in that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to experience the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
